Boiler grants in the UK
There is no simple UK-wide government grant that gives every eligible person a new free boiler. Boiler repair, replacement or heating upgrades may be supported only through specific schemes and property circumstances.
Is there actually a government grant for a new boiler?
Sometimes support is possible, but it is not a blanket new-boiler entitlement. ECO may help with replacing or repairing a boiler or with other heating upgrades, but household eligibility, EPC rating, tenure, the existing heating system and supplier assessment all matter.

ECO4 and boiler work
GOV.UK says ECO may help with replacing or repairing a boiler or other heating upgrades for eligible households. Ofgem's consumer guidance is more specific: boiler repair, replacement or upgrade may be possible, but the home must be assessed and the measure must fit ECO4 rules.
For a broken boiler replacement, Ofgem says the premises must have had an efficient boiler immediately before installation, and that boiler must have broken down and be uneconomical to repair. ECO4 also has a cap on replacement of efficient broken heating systems. Heating-system upgrades can be treated differently where the existing boiler is inefficient.
Pensioners and Universal Credit
Are pensioners automatically entitled to a free boiler?
No. Pension age alone does not create automatic entitlement. Pension Guarantee Credit, Pension Savings Credit, low income, vulnerability, EPC rating and the condition of the heating system may all be relevant under different routes.
Does Universal Credit automatically mean a free boiler?
No. Universal Credit can be one route into ECO eligibility, but the property and heating-system assessment still decide whether boiler work is offered.
Owner-occupiers, tenants and landlords
Owner-occupiers may be considered where household and property rules are met. Private tenants need the owner's permission. In private rented homes, the available ECO4 measure types depend on the property's rating and the package rules, so boiler replacement is not always available even where the tenant is eligible.
Be careful with free boiler grant adverts
Government schemes may be delivered by suppliers, installers and third-party partners, but a government-sounding advert is not proof that the company is official or that you qualify. Check the official scheme guidance, ask which supplier or authority is involved, and do not sign or pay until you understand the funding, contribution, installer, guarantee and complaint route.
